Getting perilously close to a big birthday. Really thought I'd feel like a grown up by this age!! Don't think I can reach "Crone" status until I have some kind of accomplishment under my belt that sets me apart from those many chronological years younger. I'd like to feel "wise" before I just feel old...Not yet!

Magic
just finished watching the 2010 Grammy Awards. Highlights for me were the performances of Eminem, Rihanna, Dr.Dre, Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mick Jagger.
Mick Jagger is like a Rock and Roll Elf. He looks, sounds and moves great in his dapper green suit! I was smiling the whole time that he performed. Awesome! Cee Lo was quite over the top and it worked, he was like a human muppet singing "Forget You" the cleaned up version of the original song. Gwyneth sang her part wonderfully, with a sense of humor and some great fuschia feather earrings. Still need to see Lady Gaga's performance too.
an aside: at the grocery store tonight, I strolled through and felt like a magical sort myself in the freezer section, waving my hands and lights turning on in response. ah, I am easily amused.

Foundations
A good friend told me that the key to looking good is the right foundation. I think that applies to shapewear, the right makeup, exercise, meditation and more importantly- the right attitude. I met a woman in her 60's the other day and she told me that she was getting married in the Fall. Before I could even congratulate her, she told me that she was too old to show her legs, her arms, or her knees. What? How is that possible? Obviously she's not too old to get married but she can't show parts of herself?! I'm confused. Who the heck cares how her legs, arms and knees look? They work, they get the job done!
Leaving the grocery store, and walking into the parking lot, Shakespeare's "All the World's a Stage" pops into my head. True enough, stop waiting for the perfect size, wear your black boots, leggings and a tunic dress! Go for it! Wear what makes you feel good, "these boots were made for walking!..." Strut your stuff, even if its through a grocery store parking lot. Oh, by the way, I really want to participate in one of those flash mob dance groups.

Personally
New Years Resolution #1, to not take things, ok, everything, personally. I have always had a bad habit of doing just that. So, new plan- to let certain things roll off my back, think briefly about them, or as Jay Z says, "Brush it off". I think thats what Jay Z says.
Listening to our President tonight during the State of the Union Address, I feel hopeful again about our country. President Obama did a good job of talking about many challenging subjects with honesty, humor and determination. I had no idea that an American company created the drill for "Plan B" that helped to rescue the Chilean Miners. Amazing!
On a more superficial note, Eos has made a wonderful lemon lip balm with no parabens, good stuff only and spf 15! Available at Walgreens for 3.50 and on Drugstore.com.

Bad Reputation
My friend tells me that the word "crone" has a bad reputation. I suppose a wicked old lady with warts and general unpleasant demeanor and appearance springs to the minds of most. Instead, I hope to start a new definition for the "crone" . How about an older, more sophisticated woman who realizes her own power and finally feels her age to be a good thing. She can share her wisdom with other women. She knows her weaknesses and strengths. She appreciates the little, the big and everything in-between.

2011 Tips
Read two books by Simon Doonan, "Wacky Chicks" and "Eccentric Glamour". Use Bumble & Bumble Styling cream. Really works. Burt's Bees 24 hr moisturization lotion. Actually works. Go to the movies. Buy your tickets at Costco for cheaper tickets. Do "Zumba" dance!
Football Day
What to do on Football Day? Whether tis nobler to sit and watch, zoning out and meditating OR clean, organize, go out and do something else? I am grateful to have options. I am going to go to the movies. Saw a beautiful red cardinal today. I just recently discovered that the male cardinal is the red one. The female is plain and simple. Reading the "Tao of Pooh". Time to get ready. One thing is for sure, I take awhile to get ready to go places. I have accepted this.
